Pre-Order the Book (and Save the Date)!

If you’ve read this blog then you are well aware that food can tell a story. Delicious aromas, the taste of a special spice, a china pattern used for a holiday dinner can elicit memories, take us back to a particular time and place, and define a moment in history for us. Since 2017, we’ve been preserving and sharing these stories with our readers on this blog. The stories shared here—and more—are becoming a book published by University of South Carolina Press. Kugels and Collards: Stories of Food, Family, and Tradition will be released August 29, 2023. This blog has been a passion of ours for years, and we’re excited further preserve and share our state’s Jewish history through the food stories, recipes, and photographs in the book.

Historic Columbia and the Jewish Historical Society of South Carolina will be the beneficiaries of all book sales, so that further research and preservation work can be done. The staff of these organizations have been instrumental throughout the process of moving us from concept to blog to book!

The book is available for pre-order on Amazon and USC Press.

Save the Date

To celebrate the release of the book, we will be hosting book launch and signing events. We hope that you can join us at our signature event on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. This event will be held at Historic Columbia’s Seibels House, located in downtown Columbia, SC. Guests at this event will be treated to a tasting using recipes from the book, and will enjoy a meet and greet with the authors and book contributors. You won’t want to miss it!
